The week of September 1st, 2010
September’s here! Goodbye summer, hello fall TV season! Not just the new seasons on TV, but a chance to see what was hot last year. This week sees a few of those get released. “Sons of Anarchy” continues strongly into its’ second season, picking up where the motorcycle club left off…in the middle of everything. This show just gets more and more compelling as it goes. Hugh Laurie’s “House” also just keeps on trucking, though I’d personally love to see a guest spot from his old friend and comedy partner Stephen Fry. There are also a couple of good looking new shows, “Parenthood”, loosely based on Ron Howard’s 1989 film of the same name, and “The Vampire Diaries”, based on a popular series of books…wait…this sounds familiar…. This series was actually written before the one with all the sparkly vampires. And it has Boone from “Lost”. Might be worth your while…
As far as films go, there is Michael Caine opening his own brand of Olde English whoop-ass in “Harry Brown”, and George A. Romero’s latest entry in his series of zombie flicks, “Survival of the Dead”. Can’t wait to see both these. And then there is “Babies”. It’s a narration-less documentary about babies. The human kind. Enter at your own risk (of wearing out your “awwwwww!” button).
A nice new Blu-ray of “Field of Dreams”, with some great new special features is now available at our store, but here, finally, is the DVD many of you have waiting for: “Iron Maiden: Flight 666″. Sam Dunn (of “Metal: A Headbanger’s Journey” and “Rush: Beyond The Lighted Stage” - which are awesome, btw) put together this document about the life and history of this British heavy metal icon. If it’s anything like his previous docs, you do not need to even be that interested in the band itself to be entertained by it. The man knows what he is doing.
